About Us
Music plays an important role in the daily life at Morpeth, with all pupils being encouraged to participate in music-making and fostering musical ability at the highest level. The department has recently become a "Champion School" for Musical Futures with KS3 following this learning method.
With concert bands, an orchestra, small chamber ensembles, rock bands, choirs, numerous music projects with outside agencies and more than 22 specialist music staff, the Music Department is one of the busiest and liveliest in the borough.
Housed on the ground floor of North Wing the department boasts two classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards,1 large ICT room with 20 imacs using Reson, Logic, Sibelius and Garage Band, 6 practice rooms, a recording studio with live room and control room, a world music room, DJ room, band room and ample storage space.
Over the past decade strong links have been formed with various outside agencies including Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Barbican Education, local primary schools and the Institute of Education. Current projects include work with Guildhall School of Music and Drama, links with British Council School in Madrid, Performing Arts School and "47" in New York, King David School and Formby High School in Liverpool, work with Barbican Education and peformances at the Barbican - including Minimilism work with John Cage and Robert Worby, World in Motion - Pulse, keyboard workshops at Guildhall, performances in the local community, working with students from Trinity College of Music, Institute of Education, Guildhall and links with THAMES and other Tower Hamlet Schools.
Following the national curriculum at KS3, the department has built up an exciting and varied program of study to include performance and creative skills and appraisal work. Combined with the development of ICT and the extensive extra-curricular program we try to ensure that our students have the opportunity to pursue their interest in music to the highest level.
